Worked out this morning for the first time in eight days. I have kind of relapsed on the exhaustion and I don't know what to think. Do I need a higher CPAP setting? Do I have another sinus infection (think I do)?

Heather is visiting hurray hurray hurray and Grammy decided to stay until the weekend, a near-record 3-1/2 weeks, how lucky are we to have all these people visit us who take such good care of us?

Meg also has a friend over this afternoon, a boy who is in one of the other kinder classes at school. It's funny, at the beginning of the year she gravitated to the mean popular girls but these days she's much more likely to ask me to have one of the boys over, and from what I know of the girls and the boys, this is far preferable.

Quoting an email I got from my sitter, talking about her daughter:

she found a picture catherine had colored for her in the stack of colored papers and said "oh man! I forgot to tell Catherine thank you for this beautiful picture!"
soooo
she says...I'll pray to God for her..
"Dear God, thank you for Catherine making me this beautiful picture, she's the sweetiest cutie pie in the whole wide beautiful world and she's my best best best best friend and even Ben is my best friend and he's a baby. I love this picture and will keep it forever and ever - Amen"

Stop thinking this is all there is...

Realize that for every ongoing war and religious outrage and environmental devastation, there are a thousand counter-balancing acts of staggering generosity and humanity and art and beauty happening all over the world, right now, on a breathtaking scale, from flower box to cathedral.

Resist the temptation to drown in fatalism, to shake your head and sigh and just throw in the karmic towel.

Realize that this is the perfect moment to change the energy of the world, to step right up and crank your personal volume; right when it all seems dark and bitter and offensive and acrimonious and conflicted and bilious... there's your opening!

And, finally, believe you are part of a groundswell, a resistance, a seemingly small but actually very, very large impending karmic overhaul, a great shift, the beginning of something important and potent and unstoppable.

I guess I'm a bit slow when it comes to cars and electronics. Our new '08 Civic has, in theory, a connector for an iPod. I expected it to be USB, but it's a female kind of hookup, the same as what the iPod has on the end opposite the USB connector. I don't know how to hook my iPod up to it! Can anyone help? I used to just use an FM transmitter, and lately I have used portable speakers. Sure would be nice to plug it right into the car's system.

I hate being sick. I know, duh. But I can't breathe through my nose, so I can't use my CPAP, so I'm super-tired, so I'm super-cranky. Not that it's an excuse, it's just much harder for me to be a decent human being when I don't feel well.

The elem. school has a Family Appreciation Night tonight. It's a hot dog picnic for dinner. Woo. I'd rather stay home. But the kids are excited and at least I don't have to figure out what to feed everybody - only myself, since hot dogs gross me out.

I want to compost but we had vermin move in. Again. So we disassembled it. Again. How to keep the vermin out of the compost pile?

I am sick. Ben has a(nother) sinus infection. Eric injured his neck (don't know how). Eric is probably getting sick. Mom will probably get sick. I am taking Meg to an informational meeting tonight for Girl Scouts. Not my first choice of activity for her but she is interested and I like to encourage that.

Rest in Peace, Jordan [05.5.2008 @ 16:48]

The 36-year-old friend of a friend died on Friday night when a tree branch fell on him. :( He was outside with their two-year-old, over at another friend's house, while his other daughter and wife were inside. Just one of those stark reminders of how suddenly we can lose someone. I hate those reminders, and yet I need them so I don't take anyone for granted.

Email my boss got and forwarded to the four of us on her team: "We got it installed using your user manuals. Probably the best written manuals I have encountered."

I do love working out. What a change from my former couch potato self!

Took the kids to library story hour after my workout. Our branch does a really nice job with stories and songs and crafts and has a great selection of kid and adult books, as well as DVDs and books on CD. Meg is crazy about books on CD in the car and I think it's a wonderful way to expose them all to children's literature when I can't be reading to them. We just finished Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and will start James and the Giant Peach next - two of my childhood favorites!
